Progress in Math

I think my progress in math since the beginning of the year has come a long way! I’ve always had A’s in math, but I feel like I finally deserve it. I think just my problem solving has improved rapidly and I am understanding so much more. I am excited to see how my math skills turn out in the near future. I use math in my everyday life and I am glad I know these skills.

Math Class

This math class is a lot different than other math classes I have had in the past. I really like this math class, because I like practicing the math skills on Khan Academy and writing blogs about what I have learned throughout the year. I think it is good to write the blogs because I feel like it helps me to memorize the skills better. It is also good to write blogs, so if you forget what you were doing on a certain problem you can go back and look. Another thing I really like about this class is that you can retake tests that you didn’t do so well on. This class is really fun and I think that is what makes students understand the math better. I have really liked this class so far this year.

Estimating Square Root of 76

When you are finding the square root of a number that does not have a perfect square you find out the closest perfect square roots to the number, which in this case is 64 and 81.

64—76—81              64=8×8         76=?x?       81=9×9

Then you find out half way between 8 and 9 which would be 8.5.

-An easy way to find out the estimation of 76 is to add 64 and 8.5.

64+8.5=72.5

After that, you know that 64 x 8.5 is lower than 76, so you know that it should be higher.

Next you can try 5.6 which is still to low, so if you try 5.7 it should be right.

About Me

My name is Madi Parks, I’ve cheered since I was about four years old and even though it takes up most of my free time I wouldn’t want to do anything else. I have three siblings my youngest siblings name is Zander and he is six years old. I have a younger sister named Gracie and an older sister named Delainey. I am planning on doing track this year and am very excited for it, and well that’s me.

Student-Led Conference

Math class this nine weeks has been going pretty well! I have learned a lot of new math skills I  had no idea I could do. I’ve learned to combine like terms and to combnine like terms using the distribution property. Last year I had some trouble multiplying and dividing negative numbers, but this year I feel really good about that and understand it a lot better. I have worked really hard on Khan Academy this year and passed the lessons Mr. Oldfeild has put on the board for the day pretty easily. I understand the math skills pretty well and always try my best on his tests that he gives us in class, so in that case I feel like I should have an A in his class.
